RESPECT AND BEING A WRITER (KUNO)
Hindi ko na sana palalakihin yung issue, but I feel I need to write something, not in defense of what I have done, sending an ‘offending’ private message to a writer. I know the offense was because of the unsolicited advice.
Sa sagot nya sa akin, may sinasabi sya about respect. Perhaps, ang ibig nyang ipakahulugan ay respeto sa isang fellow writer. Sabi nya, baka daw baguhang writer lamang ako at hindi ko alam ang ibig sabihin ng salitang, ‘respect’.
Ok lang sana na sa private message kami magpalitan ng aming mga pananaw. But gumawa siya ng essay tungkol sa kanyang grievance over my unwanted criticism at ipinoste nya sa story page para mabasa ng mainstream readers.
Wala ring mali sa ginawa nya. Tulad ng sinasabi nya sa kanyang post, “…. as a writer, I have the right to write on whatever style I want.” Agreed. Walang argumento doon.
But, to say that there is no rule or format in writing; I think is a wrong notion. Hindi porke nakapagposte ka ng kwento na marami ang hits o views sa isang on-line post eh magaling ka ng sumulat. Or pwede mo nang tawagin ang sarili mo na isa kang writer.
I, myself, ay hindi ako confident na isa akong writer. I am an engineer by profession. Kasama sa pinag-aralan ko ang pagsusulat. Pero it is in the form of formal writing. Technical writing ang tawag namin dito. As an engineer, I learned to write technical reports, to prepare technical proposals and feasibility studies. At syempre, bago ka maka-graduate, kailangan mong mag-submit ng thesis. So, technically, lahat ng nagkaroon ng formal education ay naranasan ang pagsusulat.
But, this does not make them writers in the strict sense of the term.
